Little known fact – Los Angeles is home to the nation’s fifth largest Italian population. So it’s fitting that

October 12, 2013 will mark the 5th anniversary of one of LA’s best annual food and wine events, “Taste of Italy.” Presented by the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles (IAMLA), the annual cultural-gastro event is a celebration of Italy and all things Italian, showcasing over 60 of the best restaurants and wineries, with live entertainment, cooking demos and special celebrity appearances.

“Taste of Italy is a celebration of authentic Italian culture and the tremendous, yet often overlooked, legacy of Italian Americans in the region,” said Marianna Gatto, historian and Executive Director, IAMLA.

“The IAMLA and Taste of Italy provide an avenue through which people of all origins can come together to learn about the region’s diverse history and experience Italian culture through the universal language of food,” adds  Paul Pagnone, President, IAMLA.

Proceeds from the day will support the IAMLA’s exhibitions and the preservation of the building in which the Museum is housed.  Slated to re-open in 2014, the Italian American Museum is poised to be a 21st century, interactive museum that documents the history and continuing contributions of Italian Americans and Italians to Southern California and the nation, and will feature special exhibits and educational programming. The Museum’s building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest remaining structure in Little Italy Los Angeles.
