Los Angeles audiences recently had the special opportunity to see the opera world’s best when Russian soprano Anna Netrebko performed a recital with new duet and life partner, Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov, under the direction of charismatic Italian conductor Marco Boemi.
The exclusive, two evening engagement at The Broad Stage (www.thebroadstage.com) in Santa Monica was the only U.S. appearance by the recently married couple. Netrebko and Eyvazov performed duets and arias from such iconic operas as Madame Butterfly, Pagliacci, Tosca and La Bohème. The event marked the ultra glamorous Netrebko’s first L.A. appearance in ten years.
The dramatic, yet at times playful, performance by opera’s new power couple, set in such an intimate venue was unforgettable, with the artists invited to perform multiple encores. A truly delightful evening, made possible by the Lloyd E. Rigler – Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation.
