Los Angeles was in for a surprise this past weekend. Hundreds and hundreds of super heroes, villains, anime and video game characters littered the streets surrounding the L.A. Convention Center. Make your way inside, and there you would find Batman (many, many Batmans), Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, Princess Peach and so much more! This was San Diego Informer’s first time attending Stan Lee’s Comikaze and let us say, bravo Stan Lee, bravo.
Stan Lee’s Comikaze is a convention centered on comics, video games, sci-fi, fantasy, horror and all things pop-culture. According to Comikaze’s website, over 52 thousand people attended last year. We can only imagine how many more attended this year, due to crowded convention center floors. Comikaze featured a vast expanse of exhibitors showing their wares. You could find true to size shields, swords and other novelty weapons as well as that cute collectable Pop mini figurine you’ve been searching for. What was most impressive about Comikaze was the lineup of guests. Hot Topic sponsored the main stage at Comikaze, which housed A-List panels, entertainment and other events. Some of the guests of honor were Gwendoline Christie and Alfie Allen known for their starring roles on Game of Thrones as well as Jim Lee, a world famous comic book artist who is currently the Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment. Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes even showed up with a life size Hulk cake for Stan Lee. Talk about impressive! Comikaze went on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Oct 31-Nov 2); with the option of buying a 3-day pass or individual day tickets.
The experience of Comikaze overall was beyond amazing. There was a full lineup of awesome events throughout each day and more than enough to look at and enjoy. Not to mention, Comikaze attempted to break the world record of the longest link of human Tetris pieces (lovingly dubbed “Tetriminos”). How thrilling is that! Comikaze is a convention force to be reckoned with; we anxiously await the next Comikaze!
