The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica continued its highly popular ‘The Celebrity Opera Series’ with a stunning performance by superstar soprano Angela Gheorghiu, in concert with an orchestra conducted by Tiberiu Soare. Ms. Gheorghiu was joined onstage by world- class tenor and fellow Romanian, Călin Brătescu. The evening’s robust program consisted of works by Cilea, Bizet, Puccini, Verdi and Enescu.
Gheorghiu’s magnificent voice and dazzling stage presence have established her as a unique international opera star. Often described as one the most glamorous and gifted opera singers of our time, she has appeared on over 80 recordings released through the labels Decca, EMI and Deutsche Grammophon. Her performance of Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen, available on YouTube, has garnered over six million views, underscoring her status as one of the world’s most beloved opera singers.
