Celebrity Cruises (www.celebritycruises.com) unveiled Celebrity Edge, a new standard in luxury travel, on March 13 at Red Seven at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, part of a nationwide reveal.
Scheduled for first sail in December 2018, Celebrity Edge features expanded staterooms, an innovative Magic Carpet platform and stunning suites. Designed by a group of globally renowned architects and designers, the 2,918-guest vessel aims to transform the cruise experience.
“Celebrity Edge is one of the most exciting, innovative and transformational ships I have ever been involved with,” says Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “The new features and refined design will establish a new baseline for ships from here on out.”
“Our guests don’t want to just skim the world like a magazine – they want to feel a human connection with it,” adds Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President & CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “Every element of Celebrity Edge is meant to make that connection intense and unforgettable. Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives.
Renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen and visionary architect Tom Wright of WKK created the new design, while American designer Nate Berkus was named Design Ambassador. Together, with a talented group of designers, the team arrived at design concepts that are fresh, exciting, luxurious and comfortable.
The ship’s expanded staterooms feature infinite verandas creating a seamless space, from the room’s door all the way to the water’s edge. With a simple touch of a button, guests are afforded open-air access to the sea.
The ultimate sanctuary for travelers will be the new private space named The Retreat, featuring a private pool on the sundeck and lounge, offering heightened levels of style and sophistication. The area also features personal butler service and the exclusive restaurant, Luminae @ The Retreat.
With Celebrity Edge, the cruise line has more than doubled the number of available suites, adding two new luxury categories. At the top of the line are two new iconic suites situated above the ship’s bridge as well as six split-level Edge Villas.
The Rooftop Garden is one of many spaces that will lure guests out to relax during the day and enjoy music and filmed entertainment in the evening hours.
Celebrity Edge’s most innovative feature is the Magic Carpet platform. The size of a tennis court, this incredible engineering feat scales the 16-deck ship through the day and evening. At the summit on Deck 16, the Magic Carpet becomes a specialty restaurant offering a “Dinner on the Edge” for 90 guests. On Deck 14, Magic Carpet becomes an open-air expansion of the main pool area while on Deck 5, the platform extends one of the restaurants into al fresco seating. At its lowest position on Deck 2, Magic Carpet transforms to Destination Gateway, a luxury embarkation station.
Celebrity Edge will be joined by its three sister ships, planned to set sail in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
