The Las Vegas foodie fest is back, and it’s bigger, longer and hopefully better than ever. Given the opportunity to walk the grounds before the official opening, I jumped at the chance, snapping some shots along the way. The Las Vegas Foodie Fest is a celebration of mobile food excellence, and possibly offering the final big street fair for the remainder of 2014 for Las Vegas. The weather s unseasonably warm, which will make for a perfect weekend to come out and sample the finest food from some culinary giants on wheels. And… WHITE CASTLE IS BACK.
Look for the purple truck with the Sugar Skulls and the smell of Chorizo and Soy Sauce. That is where you will find one of the biggest flavor explosions to be had by your mouth; Dos Chinos made the trip from Orange County, California to Las Vegas Foodie Fest for the first time. Not only is this truck churning out some of the finest Asian/Hispanic fusion dishes, it is also run by a very creative, dedicated and hard working crew. You may or may not have caught my previous article about Dos Chinos, so if you haven’t…
Tried and true, the owners of Dos Chinos are always trying to push themselves to be bigger, better and more successful. They have been featured on both the Cooking Channel and Food Network, with the wildly popular “Chopped,” in a food truck battle, eventually coming runner-up. I hear they are bringing the “Oahu Lobster” dishes, I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but it is a MUST HAVE. Check out the Stoner Fries, and don’t be afraid of the incredible menu, jump right in.
And of course, the venerable cult classic, White Castle. I love White Castle, I always have, I always will. There is something about these little, holey, onion steamed burgers that really whips my cream. I am going to stock up on them for sure, and I recommend that you do too. Not so long ago, White Castle came out to Las Vegas Foodie Fest for the first time, and this “Craver” stood in line on a very hot and sunny Sunday in the Silverton Parking lot for 5 hours and 34 minutes. Not an exaggeration, by any means, I stood there, getting sunburnt and waiting longer than I have waited for anything in my life. Until the location opens here in 2015, the closest White Castle can be found in St Louis, Missouri. For five days, they will be here in Las Vegas with three lines for different levels of commitment. There is a line for those with a small craving, that is for the 10 or less items. There is a middle line, for those with a moderate voracious hunger for the little steamed wonders. Or, if you are all in, like you probably will be, there is a NO LIMIT line for 100+. That’s right, there is a separate line for those wanting over 100 white castle burgers! That line will be long.
I am running late for the Las Vegas Foodie Fest, so I have to cut things short at this point. Thank you Red Dragon, Las Vegas Foodie Fest, Dos Chinos, White Castle and every participant for Las Vegas Foodie Fest, fall edition, and all of you for making Las Vegas Foodie Fest a growing, delicious taste on wheels. Oh yeah, one more thing. You can find, me, and the Las Vegas Foodie Fest under the High Roller at The Linq from today, Oct 15- Oct 19. Come out and get your foodie on!
